"Nothing At All" August 8, 2010

The original idea for this project was to dig out some of my old songs that almost no one has heard, gather some musicians, find a location and perform the song virtually unrehearsed for the camera. The whole thing was meant to be a fun distraction from the new album I'm working on...and it has been...but it's also created a new distraction.

Nothing At All is a song of mine that's been around forever. Popgun5 fans will recognize the music as "Look At All The People". I always like for the singer to write the lyrics if possible since they will be the one delivering the song. When I started that band with my friend Howard Berg I decided to let Ralph (Roether) write his own lyrics and thus Look At All The People was born. I'll post the Popgun5 version of the song soon.

The new distraction is that digging these songs out has made me want to put a band together and perform. So Kevin and Tommy and I have started rehearsing the "rock" versions of these songs and this is one of the songs we're doing. It sounds much different "electrically" than it does in this acoustic performance.

"Never Let You Down"

I don't remember when I actually wrote this song but Tommy and Kevin and I recorded basic tracks for a version for the "Three Chord Circus - Start" CD way back in 2004. That version has never been released but I keep thinking I should put out the "Complete Start Sessions" with all the songs we recorded. Here's the modern, unrehearsed, acoustic version recorded August 15, 2010.

Now we're getting somewhere

I'm not going to have a chance to render the video and sync the audio soon but we had a great day of jamming today. Hopefully there will be a decent performance in there somewhere.

It was Nothing At All

It was an interesting weekend of attempted recordings. In the end I ended up in a really cool space with Tommy Garza, my former Last Gentlemen brother, and Kevin McGuire. We worked through a song I had not planned on recording but because we were one person short I was sort of scrambling. This song will get posted at some point but for now here's a photo from today.
